Purple Toilet Campaign Kicks Off

Beware the "Purple Toilet" is on the prowl and could be visiting your house soon.

The campaign is in support of the Barrow-Civic Theatre's new heating system. We are flushing the Barrow Bills with this campaign.

When you find the "Purple Toilet" in your yard you have three choices. 1. Pay a fine to remove it and the put it in another yard. 2. Pay your fine and call the Barrow-Civic Theatre to have it moved to another yard (Charge included). 3. Call the Barrow and let us know you are not interested in playing the game and we will pick it up.

Old Time Radio Returns

Journey into the airwaves of yesteryear with the Old Time Radio Show Fri Aug 6 at 8pm and Sat Aug 7 at 8pm.

Under the direction of Paul Adomites, the Old Time Radio Troupe of characters will be recreating episodes from ESCAPE (A Shipment of Mute Fate) and FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY (McGee the Wrestler).

This afternoon the air conditioning system was kicked on after some tweaking and is currently cooling the Main Theatre. General Manager Penny Gustavson says, "Thank you Reno Bros. and all those who donated their time and funding to Phase 1 of the HVAC project. We look forward t...o seeing everyone in the seats soon."

Enjoy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels this weekend in cool, air-conditioned comfort! If you had to leave last week's show due to the heat, call the Box Office for a comp ticket exchange.

Work is well underway this week to complete the first phase of the HVAC system overhaul. Brand new, energy efficient air chillers arrive Wed AM to be lifted onto the roof by the contractors. They have already run the piping, wiring and placed foundations for the units.

Fingers crossed - they are telling us we should have air in the MAIN THEATRE by Friday, just in time for opening night!

Audition Call for The Foreigner

Auditions for the FCOA summer comedy will be held June 20 and 21 in the Little Theatre.

“Froggy" LeSeuer visits a rural Georgia camp and brings Charlie, a shy young man with him. He tells everyone that Charlie is from a foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister minister; that the minister's fiancée is pregnant; and other revelations made thinking that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. What he does fuels nonstop hilarity and sets up the climax in which things awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

Barrow Fun Blast a success!

Thank you to all of our supporters and those who attended the Raising the Roof to Lower the Temp event at the theatre.

The culmination evening of the Barrow Fun Blast featured a casino night, raffles and drawings of the Barrow Fun Blast packages, plus special silent auction baskets, and more.

The evening also featured entertainment by Bret Sloan, Tammi Dahl, Tim Gilbert, Hannah Pratt and Kristen Criado. Food was graciously provided by many of our local restaurants and eateries.

Suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money, while a small-time crook named Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health. After meeting on a train, they unsuccessfully attempt to work together only to find that their small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female heiress wins and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues, that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end! Based on the hit 1988 movie.

Miracle Worker set to open April 23 at the Barrow-Civic Theatre

Adapted by William Gibson from his own novel, The Miracle opens with a doctor assuring Captain Keller and his wife, Kate that their infant daughter, Helen, will recover from a serious fever. Soon after the doctor leaves, however, Kate realizes that Helen is deaf and blind.

In the next scene, Helen is about six years old. She is a wild, undisciplined child. Though they try, her parents are unable to help or control her. In desperation they hire a young woman, Annie Sullivan.

From the moment Annie arrives, it is clear that she and Helen will be gripped in a great struggle. But Helen is not the only problem for Annie. Annie must also convince the Kellers, that she needs complete control of Helen if she is to reach the child. Annie is certain that language is the key to gaining access to Helen's mind, and she constantly spells the names of things on Helen's palm.

Although Helen can spell them back on Annie's palm, the understanding that the words represent things eludes her. After spending two weeks together in the garden house, Helen finally obeys Annie, but when the time is up and they return to the family, Helen quickly reverts to her former behavior.

When Helen spills a water pitcher on Annie, Annie takes her out to refill it. She spells "water" into Helen's hand, and suddenly the miracle happens. Helen understands.

The play is based on Helen Keller’s own autobiography, detailing her experiences with Annie Sullivan, and her growth from a mute deaf-blind child into an author, activist and lecturer. The bonds of friendship between Helen and Annie grew throughout her life as Helen used the experiences of her life to advocate for the deaf and blind.

Director Rebecca Christie, in her directorial debut at the Barrow-Civic Theatre, has assembled a focused and emotive cast for this production. In the role of Helen Keller is BCT newcomer Julianne Zatezalo and audiences will be amazed and terrified at the same time at the realism of her portrayal of the deaf-blind Helen.

Returning to the stage after the Little Theatre production of ‘Night Mother, is Amy Dittman in the role of Annie Sullivan, the Boston teacher hired to manage Helen, and who also shares both affliction and heartache with her young charge.

Sara Williams and Ted Smith play beleaguered parents Kate and Captain Keller, with Ben Bodamer as their son James. Peg Hennessy stars as Aunt Ev, with Carissa McClintock as Viney Abby Larimore as Martha, and Critter Fink as Percy.

Nick Keely plays the Doctor with Cooper Oliver playing Anagnos, Annie’s Teacher. Lane Behe is cast as Jimmie, with Julia Lusher, Bowen Dye, David Zlotnicki, Jordyn Plymire, Beth Pfohl, Victoria Sherman, Anna Fox, Megan Keelan, and Regan Scott as the Blind School Children.

Blind Pianist plays opening night in Little Theatre

Opening Night Gala Entertainment on Friday April 23 is provided by "Michelle Markle" a local performer from Cooperstown, PA. She will be playing a number of arrangements on the piano as well as singing a variety of styles.

Michelle has played the piano since the age of three and has been singing most of her life. She enjoys playing music with her husband and two children, who also play a variety of instruments.

Opening Night artists are partially supported through a partnership with and a grant from the Pennsylvania Partners on the Arts.

BCT provides sign language interpretation for the deaf

As a special service to our audiences for The Miracle Worker, the Barrow-Civic Theatre is pleased to announce that Pat Mong will be interpreting the show for the deaf.

Pat is an American Sign Language interpreter who first learned ASL to assist pre-school deaf students in becoming mainstreamed into the public school system.

Pat teaches ASL at Clarion University and Venango Technology Center, and has been interpreter at Grace UMC Church in Oil City for over twenty years. The Barrow-Civic Theatre is pleased and honored to have Pat involved in the show.

Rounding out the production team with director Rebecca Christie are Theresa Zlotnicki, Anne Marie Huthcinson and Cindy Behe on props; Ed Ramage (Set and Lighting Design), and Aaron and Andrew Ritsig on Lights and Sound. Cathy Heim leads the costume team with Deb Kreps, Charlotte Davis and Pat Larimore. Sheila Plymire is stage manager, as well as co-producer with Ted Smith for FCOA.

Barrow hosts Bulter Penn Theatre Trust for visit

This week the Butler Penn Theatre Trust visited the Barrow-Civic Theatre. The Penn Theatre Trust is currently in the planning stage of a theatre renovation and was looking for our support and knowledge in regards to this effort. We provided them with a guided tour, of the Barrow, hosted by some of our original planning members and current theatre staff. This was followed by an informational meeting at which time discussions of how the Barrow's efforts were accomplished and what pitfalls were encountered.

Pump Boys opens tomorrow night with an opening night reception

As an extension of the areas blue grass festival held at the Arlington Hotel in Oil City, the Band “Linefork” is performing at the Barrow-Civic Little Theater for the March 5, 2010 opening night of their 2010 season.

Linefork is a 3-piece bluegrass band with a flair out of Greenville, PA . Jim Helmetzi on banjo, mandolin, and vocals. The band also includes T.C. Conner on lead guitar and vocals and Chris Booher on banjo and vocals. (in the picture) They played on Friday night of the Blue grass Festival and were very well recepted.

The opening show for the Barrow-Civic Theater is “Pump Boys and Dinettes” and part of FCOA’s strive to provide the area with excitement on opening night, they will hold a reception with light Hors d’overes served by Uptown Bistro and have the band playing from 6:45 – 7:45 before the show’s opening. Part of the mission of the opening night festivities is to provide a chance for area artists to showcase their talent in conjunction with the Barrow-Civic Theater prestigous performances.

The opening night festivities are funded by a grant from Pennsylvania Partner’s in Arts through the Venango Center for Creative Development. This performance is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

We're excited to see everyone interested in The Miracle Worker this weekend, Feb 27 and 28 at 1pm, for auditions at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Director Rebecca Christie is ready to audition and cast the spring drama for Franklin Civic Operetta Association. The BCT Old Time Radio Troupe returns to the Little Theatre sound stage for "Love is in the Air" - our romance-themed radio show, recreating episodes of The Bickersons, Fibber McGee and Molly, The Radio City Playhouse and the return of our original heroine Franklin Frankie.

Linda Ritsig and Cooper Oliver return as the bickering duo The Bickersons, while Dennis Hoover and Deb Krepps keep us laughing and dodging the "closet chaos" as Molly reminisces over love letters in Fibber McGee and Molly. Cooper Oliver and Ted Smith are Porter and Thurston, "treating" their wives to the ultimate vacation as they dream of their own. And Linda Ritsig, Peg Hennessy and Deb Krepps shine in the return of our original series Franklin Frankie, written by Paul Adomites.

Also featuring the voices of Paul Adomites, Andrew Ritsig, Aaron Ritsig, Ray Palmer, with Ed Ramage pulling double duty on the mic and the sound table, with music by Steve Luxbacher.

Cast Announcement for Pump Boys and Dinettes

FCOA is pleased to announce the cast for the upcoming musical Pump Boys and Dinettes, directed by Laurajane Stone on the Main Stage of the Barrow-Civic Theatre.

In roles are of the Cupp sisters Rhetta and Prudie are Suzi Beach and Sara Toombs, with Geralyn McMullen playing Mona.

The Pump Boys will be portrayed by Jimmy Helmetzi (Jim), Brett Sloan (LM), Denny Butler (Eddie) and Richard Roberts (Jackson).

Stage manager is Ben Bodamer with technical assistance from Carissa McClintock and Lisa Harry.

Show dates for Pump Boys and Dinettes are March 5 , 6, 12 and 13 at 8:00pm and 14th at 2:00pm.

An Opening Night reception, sponsored in part by the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, will feature a host of bluegrass music and hors' dourves for those attending the March 5 performance.

LIberty Cabaret Shines for Two More Shows

The Liberty Cabaret closes this coming weekend with its final two shows. Starring Rosie Petulla, Bret Sloan, Katie Kirby-Rogers, Marc Holland, Janelle Chambers, Peg Hennessy, Bill Hennessy, Carissa McClintock, Bryon Gable and Ted Smith, with music direction by Tammi Dahl and accompaniment by Kristen Criado.

Franklin, PA---Barrow-Civic Theatre Names New Manager

Penny Gustavson has been named the new general manager of the Barrow-Civic Theatre. The announcement was made today by Ted Smith, of the Franklin Civic Operetta Board of Directors.

“Penny comes to us with 13 years experience at the Titusville Council on the Arts. During her tenure, the organization experienced major growth in funding and programming, and we look forward to having her at the helm of the Barrow,” said Smith.

Gustavson's start date at the Barrow is set for February 1st.

A Titusville native, Penny has also developed numerous successful arts and community programs, fundraisers and an extensive Arts and Education program through the Titusville Area School District.

“I am so excited to have this new opportunity to use my ideas and skills in managing and developing this beautiful theatre,” said Gustavson. “I have been here many times, as an audience member, and also in organizing programs in conjunction with other Franklin agencies. I have always been amazed at the jewel that you have here in the Barrow, and the wonderful supportive community,” she continued.

Gustavson holds a certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville as well as certificates in Computer Small Systems Specialist and Video Production both from the Harry T. Kerr Center in Titusville. While at UPT, she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Gustavson also serves as a PA State Representative on arts advocacy through the Americans for the Arts, who meet annually with Congress in Washington D.C. to lobby for arts funding. She is a member of the PA
Presenters Board of Directors dedicated to presenting the performing arts and serving presenters throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and as a grant review panelist on both the Erie and Venango County
Pennsylvania Partners on the Arts panels. Additionally, she serves on the Titusville Community Council Board of Directors and the Titusville Oil 150 Committee.

Penny is married to Gary Gustavson and has two children Heath Bromley and his wife Brandy of Oil City PA and Courtney DeDionisio, her husband Tony and her grandson, Michael of Erie, PA. She is the daughter of
Clarence and Carolyn Bromley of Titusville.

Theatre in the Little Theatre (TILT) is looking for interested singers to perform in the Liberty Cabaret Dinner Theatre, Jan 22-23 and 29-30.

The Liberty Cabaret will be an evening of music and song, music directed by Tammi Dahl with accompaniment by Kristen Criado. We are looking for singers to perform 2-3 songs, solo - duets - and groups. This will be a nice, relaxed evening of song - no major movement or dance.

FCOA Youth Theatre presents Sleepy Hollow

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” comes to the Barrow-Civic Theatre for Halloween weekend. This show is part of the Youth Theater educational program. The youth theater offers three opportunities per year for area youth. In February, the all youth musical features all youth who want to be a part of theater ages 8-17. In the summer, there is a weeklong camp that features youth ages 7-16. Lastly in the fall an advanced show is offered for youth ages 10-18. This show features a strict audition where not all who audition are accepted into the show. In addition, the youth theater program features youth running all the behind the scenes of the production. Any youth age 10-18 for all three of the youth theater productions can be a part of the behind the scenes running lights, sound, props, curtains and scenery.

This year’s “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” features 34 cast members and 7 backstage. We are very excited because Joseph Perrotti makes his last appearance on the youth theater stage as the lead character Icabod Crane. He has been in many youth theater productions and is a senior at Oil City High School. In 2004, when the youth theater program put on the show, Joe played the part of Old Man Blackwell (played by Aaron Ritsig in this production) telling the story to the townspeople of the headless horseman in song. The cast and crew are so excited to have Joe play the leading charater for this production. The cast is rounded out by 32 other fine youth including Lane Behe, Grace Burwell, Bridget Carter, Alexandra Dashner, Stephen Dennis, Nick Dobson, Critter Fink, Allison Greenlee, Aaron Hoffman, Anne Marie Hutchinson, Megan Keelan, Harrison Keenan, Madeline Keenan, Grace Kellner, Jill Kellner, Conor Kingdom, Leisel Kober, Abby Larimore, Rachel Marlatt, Geralyn McMullen, Alix Noyes, Jordyn Plymire, Andrew Ritsig, Evelyn Sopher, Andrea Spence, Rachel Spence, Katherine Thompson, William Thompson, Jenny Williams, Chrissy Wolfgang, Alyssa Zlotnicki and David Zlotnicki. The behind the scene crew are Tim Dennis, AJ Fox, Elizabeth Fox, Veronika Lamphere, Rebecca Marlatt, and Daniel Pratt.

Directors for this production include stage and music Director Martha Heise, choreographer Kelly Zerbe, and back stage director (set and costumes) Jessica Rodriguez. All three directors are teachers from the Oil City School District who is a great supporter of the program. In addition, Rebecca Christie a newcomer to the area has begun helping with the youth theater program and the parents of the cast a crew donate much of their time to help the production go off. This year’s advanced youth theater program is sponsored in part by HOLeY Jeans youth choir, Chest Medicine Associates of Seneca and the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts.

BCT has two shows coming up requiring actors and interested persons to perform.

Old Time Radio Show presents War of the Worlds

Come one, come all to lend your voices to the next Old Time Radio show at the Little Theatre Oct 31 at 8pm and Nov 1 at 4pm. We are recreating Meridian 7-1212 from the Columbia Radio Workshop - what kind of people call the "time service?" We are also recreating the original Mercury Theatre War of the Worlds broadcast.

The "voices" meeting is Monday at 7pm at the theatre - we will be assigning roles and parts - all voices are need, women and men. No memorization is required as we perform at mic with scripts - along with amazing sound effects by Ed Ramage. No previous experience in acting or on stage is needed - just the ability to talk!

Rehearsals Tue-Thu at the Little Theatre next week. Please join us - if you can't make Monday and want to participate - let me know via email and I'll put you on the list for parts. The radio shows are extremely fun and have been drawing great crowds.

The pump boys sell high octane on Highway 57 in Grand Ole Opry country and the dinettes, Prudie and Rhetta Cupp, run the Double Cupp diner next door. The story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller, The Miracle Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Helen, trapped in her secret world, is violent, spoiled, and treated by her family as sub-human. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. Following scenes of intense physical and emotional dynamism, Annie's success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single word: "water". April 23-24 & 30, May 1-2.

Based on the Mel Brooks movie of the same name, this mad-cap romp of hilarity follows theatrical producer Max Bialystock and his accountant/partner Leo Bloom in their get rich quick scheme to oversell a Broadway flop. Complications arise however when their “flop” becomes a hit, despite having the worst show ever written. With ridiculous accent, amusing parodies and caricatures, and irreverent poking at the business of show business, The Producers has been a hit movie, had successful runs on Broadway and the West End, and international acclaim. “Froggy" LeSeuer visits a rural Georgia camp and brings Charlie, a shy young man with him. He tells everyone that Charlie is from a foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister minister; that the minister's fiancée is pregnant; and other revelations made thinking that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. A “crash of drums” and “a flash of light” heralds the explosion of the international smash-hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat onto the Barrow-Civic Theatre stage for a six show run, September 25-27 and October 1-3.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s spectacular musical has been delighting audiences world wide for over 40 years. Noted for its family-friendly storyline, varied musical styles, and universal themes, “Joseph” is a rollicking and fun-paced retelling of the Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.

“We have an amazing cast lined up to perform for you,” says Ted Smith, Director of “Joseph” and FCOA Board Member. “Over 40 actors have been rehearsing, dancing, and singing to get ready to bring this fun, light-hearted, and captivating musical to the Barrow stage for our fans and patrons.”

In the title role of Joseph, Jordan Rembold returns to the Barrow stage after his debut as a gangster in Kiss Me, Kate! His talents and energy help drive the show, along with Pamala Mahle as the Narrator. Mahle returns to Franklin Civic Operetta after a fifteen year absence, bringing wisdom and exuberance to the role of the Narrator as she guides you through the story. Audiences will recognize Mike Leisher in the role of Pharaoh, after his turn as The Lion in The Wizard of Oz.

Opening night provides special entertainment for theatre patrons. Our traditional opening night reception from 7:00pm to 8:00pm will feature the Lake Erie Belly Dance performers, under the direction of Carla Fleming and made possible by a grant from the PPA. Bringing a touch of the exotic and middle-east to the Little Theatre, the belly dancers will perform at 7:15pm in the Little Theatre. Opening Night reception hor'dourves and drinks will be served in the Lobby and the Barrow-Civic Marquee Café outside the Box Office, catered by the new Uptown Bistro.

Music Director John McConnell returns to provide direction for both singers and another strong BCT orchestra, while Broadway veteran and choreographer Marc Ellis Holland brings to life the show’s energy and story with a rousing Go Go Joseph and Song of the King. Director Ted Smith recently directed Kiss Me, Kate! and The Wizard of Oz for FCOA. His single-unit designed set, painted by Kristen Criado, brings another first to the BCT stage.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. William Fritz has graciously donated hospital scrub sets for the cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The scrubs will be part of the ensemble costume for the show."When the concept of using medical scrubs as part of the costume came up, we just thought it was natural to get one of the local surgeons involved," said producer Victoria Beal. "Dr. Fritz generously offered to buy all the suits we needed.

Cast members John-Dominic Heim, Crissy Sibley, Aaron Ritsig Joey Campagna, and JIll Kellner wear hospital scrubs donated by Dr. William Fritz to the show & theatre.

Now, thanks to Dr. Fritz, the theatre has 30 sets of scrubs that will be used for this show and I'm sure you'll recognized bits and pieces in Barrow shows for years to come!" Beals continued.

Exotic Opening Night for Joseph Sept. 25

A special pre-show performance, featuring professional belly dancers, will set the stage for those attending the opening night performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Friday, September 25, 2009, at the Barrow Civic Theatre.

“Our thought was to have a fun event on opening night to kick off our 'Joseph' show. Belly dancers were a natural link, as our play is set in Egypt--where belly dancing has been performed throughout history," said Ted Smith, show director. “We were delighted to find that a group like this is based in Erie, and willing to perform for us!" He continued.

Featuring members of the Lake Erie Belly Dance Troupe, the opening night performance will be based in American Tribal Style (ATS) Bellydance, created by Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance in San Francisco. ATS is an improvisational form of dance, where the lead dancer, to the front right as you're facing the dance formation, gives cues for the other dancers to follow. The dancers are able to improvise and play with the cues and movements, creating a work of "moving art" before your eyes and a different performance each time they dance. You'll experience "elaborate costumes, fancy steps, and exciting music" but the brilliance of ATS is that these are "women working together in cooperation and focused on presenting the dance as one entity."

Erie's professional belly dancing troupe is a multi-generational group of women, representing multiple styles of bellydance such as ATS, cabaret, and fusions. Members study and rehearse weekly at Long's School of the Dance in Erie, Pa, with direction from Carla Fleming. LEBD represents the 'sisterhood' of the dance, and is a supportive and driving force for bellydance in the Erie area, dancing regularly at venues such as the Presque Isle Gallery Coffeehouse and Celebrate Erie.

The belly dancers will perform on September 25 at 7:15pm in the Little Theatre. Anyone who has purchased a ticket for the main stage performance for that evening is welcome to attend. Hor'dourves and beverages will be provided. This event was made possible through a grant from Pennsylvania Partners on the Arts.

The Barrow-Civic Theatre is getting Davy Jones, one night only October 17 at 8pm

Davy Jones first invaded teen hearts as the international idol of millions in the 1960s Emmy Award winning television classic The Monkees. Since the show hit the small screen, Davy has triumphed as both a serious actor and a comedian on the theatrical stage; as a rock musician, composer and artist.

Born in Manchester, England on December 30, 1945, Davy began entertaining at 11 years old as Ena Sharples' grandson on the still-running ITV soap opera, Coronation Street.

Theatrical agents sought him out as he was working as an apprentice jockey in Newmarket and took him to London where he portrayed Dickens' mischievous Artful Dodger in the West
End production of Oliver! Later, at the age of 16, Davy found himself the toast of New York where he originated the Artful Dodger role on Broadway
and was nominated for a Tony Award.

As a result, Davy was offered a contract with Columbia Pictures/Screen Gems Television, and The Monkees was created shortly after. Also a musical group, The Monkees' album sales surpassed all records, and they continue to be best-sellers 30 years later.

The theater remains in Davy's blood. He most recently received rave reviews for starring in the complex role of Fagin. He has also starred in productions of The Boyfriend, Harry Nilson's The Point, and appeared as Jesus in Godspell, which played in London's West End . Perhaps the
most celebrated television appearance in Davy's long career as a heartthrob is The Brady Bunch episode, "Getting Davy Jones."

Davy is also an accomplished writer and humorous storyteller. His talents extend to short stories, poetry, and photography.

“THE ODD COUPLE” opens tonight!
The Franklin Civic Operetta Association intends to lend new luster to its next offering, Neil Simon’s classic THE ODD COUPLE. This beloved comedy opens tonight and runs August 8 and August 14-15-16 at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $10 for students.

Fresh from his dual-role BCT debut in KISS ME KATE, Nick Mitchell wears two hats for this production as well. Nick brings creativity, expertise, and comic flair to his role as director and to his portrayal of Oscar Madison.

Christian Marshall fans will delight in his casting as America’s favorite neurotic neat freak, Felix Ungar. A gifted actor with a natural comedic style, Christian is sure to be a crowd-pleaser in this role.

Witnessing Felix’s angst from their seats at a nearby poker table are three BCT veterans and one newcomer. Ben Bodamer and Nick Keeley, both seen earlier this year in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, trade their Southern drawls for the dulcet tones of “New Yawk” and “Joisey” to play Roy and Speed. Bill Hennessy takes control as fast-drawing, slow-dealing Murray the Cop.

Completing this quartet – hysterically – is Pittsburgh actor Andy Coleman in his first Barrow-Civic appearance. Andy plays the affable but oh-so-clueless Vinnie.

BLACK TIE BARROW set to dazzle Franklin!!
Don’t miss the “Black Tie Barrow”, a special gala performance at the Barrow-Civic Theatre celebrating 50 years of groundbreaking local theatre by the Franklin Civic Operetta Association.
The performance is scheduled for one night only on August 22 at 8PM. The show is a celebration of music, theatre, opera and dance as various local performers take the stage for an evening of elegant and powerful performances. Tribute pieces from grand shows including “Carousel,” “Showboat,” and many others make up a large portion of the show. The music from “The Phantom of The Opera” is featured as a spectacular finale. Amazing vocal performances will be given by Dennis Geib, Tammy Dahl, Jeff Brown, Sam DePalma, Jenn Fox, Tim Gilbert, Jodi Hoover, T.C. Marshall, Hanna Pratt, Richard Roberts, and Bret Sloan. Violinist Tom Karg also lends his talent.

The evening also brings spectacular dance performances by Olivia Beals, Marc Holland, Darin Paden, Stephen Teig and Samantha Caiarelli. The host for the evening is Ted Smith.

The “Black Tie Barrow” was conceived by Mary Ann Richardson, the former Chairman of the board having held the seat for 25 years. Richardson was also the leader of the building purchase, now known exclusively as The Barrow-Civic Theatre. “I expect this show to rank as one of the greatest evenings of entertainment ever seen at the Barrow,” said Richardson.

Richardson is producing the show, with Tammy Dahl and Dennis Geib co-directing. There will be pre-show Champaign reception, and hors’ de ouvres. AUDITIONS: “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”
Auditions will be held on August 16 at 4:00pm & August 17 at 6:30pm. You Need only attend ONE. Auditioners must be at least 10 years old to participate. From the pages of Washington Irving's timeless classic about Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman, our rendition is a suspenseful musical that takes you through one of the timeless stories of Halloween folklore. Having brushed up everyone’s Shakespeare with KISS ME KATE, the Franklin Civic Operetta Association intends to lend new luster to its next offering, Neil Simon’s classic THE ODD COUPLE.

Fresh from his dual-role BCT debut in KISS ME KATE, Nick Mitchell wears two hats for this production as well. Nick brings creativity, expertise, and comic flair to his role as director and to his portrayal of Oscar Madison. Christian Marshall fans (we know who you are!) will delight in his casting as America’s favorite neurotic neat freak, Felix Ungar. A gifted actor with a natural comedic style, Christian is sure to be a crowd-pleaser in this role.
Witnessing Felix’s angst from their seats at a nearby poker table are three BCT veterans and one newcomer. Ben Bodamer and Nick Keeley, both seen earlier this year in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, trade their Southern drawls for the dulcet tones of “New Yawk” and “Joisey” to play Roy and Speed. Bill Hennessy, who made his acting debut in KISS ME KATE, takes his second turn on the boards as fast-drawing, slow-dealing Murray the Cop. Completing this quartet – hysterically – is Pittsburgh actor Andy Coleman in his first Barrow-Civic appearance. Andy plays the affable but oh-so-clueless Vinnie.

Proceeding from the medieval reel, the minuet, waltz, Charleston, Jersey Bounce and right up to the pop dances of today, the characters enjoy a swing through history that makes for a great deal of light-hearted hand clapping and foot tapping fun.

The show is the culmination of the annual week-long Youth Theatre Camp at the theatre.

KISS ME, KATE final weekend!

FCOA's production of The Odd Couple has entered the blogosphere. Follow the progress of the show online at oddcouple-bct.blogspot.com. The latest BCT show blog will feature cast news, rehearsal and schedule updates, ticket information and more as the next FCOA production takes shape.

Directed by Nick Mitchell, making his directing debut at the BCT following on the heels of his stage debut as General Harrison Howell in Kiss Me Kate. Nick is a partner in Empty Jug Productions, a Pittsburgh-based production company.

Kiss Me Kate returns to the main stage this weekend, Fri-Sun June 26-28 (Fri 8pm, Sat 8:30pm, Sun 2pm). Join us as we close out the final three performances and return to backstage of the Ford's Theatre in Baltimore for Fred Graham's triumphant production of The Taming of the Shrew.

Audition Notice for FCOA's upcoming production of "The Odd Couple."

Auditions for "The Odd Couple" will take place Saturday JUNE 20 and Sunday JUNE 21 (2pm both days) in the BCT Little Theatre (use alley door). The show is being directed by Nick Mitchell, currently onstage at the Barrow-Civic as General Harrison Howell in Kiss Me Kate.

Nick brings a background in acting, directing and producing shows. He currently runs Empty Jug Productions in Pittsburgh, PA.

Auditioners should come prepared to cold-read from the script. Six male and two female actors are needed - adult roles.
