BLACK TIE BARROW set to dazzle Franklin!!

Don’t miss the “Black Tie Barrow”, a special gala performance at the Barrow-Civic Theatre celebrating 50 years of groundbreaking local theatre by the Franklin Civic Operetta Association.

The performance is scheduled for one night only on August 22 at 8PM.

The show is a celebration of music, theatre, opera and dance as various local performers take the stage for an evening of elegant and powerful performances. Tribute pieces from grand shows including “Carousel,” “Showboat,” and many others make up a large portion of the show. The music from “The Phantom of The Opera” is featured as a spectacular finale.

Amazing vocal performances will be given by Dennis Geib, Tammy Dahl, Jeff Brown, Sam DePalma, Jenn Fox, Tim Gilbert, Jodi Hoover, T.C. Marshall, Hanna Pratt, Richard Roberts, and Bret Sloan. Violinist Tom Karg also lends his talent.

The evening also brings spectacular dance performances by Olivia Beals, Marc Holland, Darin Paden, Stephen Teig and Samantha Caiarelli. The host for the evening is Ted Smith.

The “Black Tie Barrow” was conceived by Mary Ann Richardson, the former Chairman of the board having held the seat for 25 years. Richardson was also the leader of the building purchase, now known exclusively as The Barrow-Civic Theatre. “I expect this show to rank as one of the greatest evenings of entertainment ever seen at the Barrow,” said Richardson.

Richardson is producing the show, with Tammy Dahl and Dennis Geib co-directing. There will be pre-show Champaign reception, and hors’ de ouvres.

Tickets are $20.00 each and can be purchased by calling the Barrow-Civic Theatre box office at 814-437-3440 from 10AM to 4:30PM Tuesday through Friday.

“THE ODD COUPLE” opens tonight!
The Franklin Civic Operetta Association intends to lend new luster to its next offering, Neil Simon’s classic THE ODD COUPLE. This beloved comedy opens tonight and runs August 8 and August 14-15-16 at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $10 for students.

Fresh from his dual-role BCT debut in KISS ME KATE, Nick Mitchell wears two hats for this production as well. Nick brings creativity, expertise, and comic flair to his role as director and to his portrayal of Oscar Madison.

Christian Marshall fans will delight in his casting as America’s favorite neurotic neat freak, Felix Ungar. A gifted actor with a natural comedic style, Christian is sure to be a crowd-pleaser in this role.

Witnessing Felix’s angst from their seats at a nearby poker table are three BCT veterans and one newcomer. Ben Bodamer and Nick Keeley, both seen earlier this year in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, trade their Southern drawls for the dulcet tones of “New Yawk” and “Joisey” to play Roy and Speed. Bill Hennessy takes control as fast-drawing, slow-dealing Murray the Cop.

Completing this quartet – hysterically – is Pittsburgh actor Andy Coleman in his first Barrow-Civic appearance. Andy plays the affable but oh-so-clueless Vinnie.

For both sugar and spice, FCOA’s ODD COUPLE looks to Katie Kirby-Rogers and Lisa Harry as the Pigeon sisters, Cecily and Gwendolyn. Hilarity ensues when these British babes enter stage left and plans for the evening take wing. Cooper Oliver and Mary Anne Wilkinson are the show’s producers.

AUDITIONS: “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”
Auditions will be held on August 16 at 4:00pm & August 17 at 6:30pm. You Need only attend ONE. Auditioners must be at least 10 years old to participate. Speaking lines and songs will be taught at the start. All auditioners must sing! Anyone interested in working back stage on tech will need to come and fill out form during audition times.

From the pages of Washington Irving's timeless classic about Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman, our rendition is a suspenseful musical that takes you through one of the timeless stories of Halloween folklore. School Shows are set for Oct. 29th, with Public Performances Fri Oct 30th at 8pm & Sun Nov 1 st at 2pm.

AUDITIONS: “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT”
Auditions will take place August 8 and 9 in the BCT Little Theatre. Children (grades 4-9) will audition at 2pm either day and adults will audition at 3pm either day. Please use the alley door off the Little Theatre. No appointment is necessary. Adults-please bring a prepared piece of music to sing.

Annual BCT Golf Outing

The 2009 9th Annual Golf Outing!The Barrow-Civic Theatre will be held on September 10, 2009 at Wanango Country Club in Reno, PA.

This annual fundraising event is a Four-Person Scramble. Registration starts at 10am with a Shotgun Start at Noon. All teams get carts, food, snacks and prizes!

This year's event is being chaired by John and Judy Marlarky with John Miller. Proceeds from the annual golf outing help support the Barrow-Civic Theatre, the "gem of our community."
